FAQ

Questions people actually arrive with

What score do I need to get invited?

Correct

There is no single cutoff. Depending on the category, 2026 minimums have ranged from 50 (a narrowly-targeted rural & remote health round) to 138 (the top of the Innovate score route). See the draw history for the actual round-by-round minimums instead of a promised number.

Never say

A confident "you need 130+ points." The real threshold moves every round and differs by category.

Is there a way in in the Innovate pillar without a high score?

Correct

Yes. The Innovate pillar's wage route invites candidates in TEER 0-3 occupations who clear a published hourly wage bar, with no minimum SIRS score at all. On the largest 2026 round (20 Aug), 337 of 602 invitations went this way, more than the score route.

Never say

"Innovate only takes the highest scorers." The wage route is a separate, no-score-minimum path that has invited more candidates in some rounds than the score route.

The rural & remote health round only needed 50 points. Is BC lowering the bar generally?

Correct

No. That 23 July 2026 round targeted a narrow slice of the pool (health occupations in specific rural and remote communities), so very few registrants qualified at all; the low score reflects a thin, specific pool, not an easier bar for everyone.

Never say

"BC dropped the score to 50, so scores are falling across the board." One narrowly-scoped round is not a trend.

Can I skip the job offer if I just graduated in BC?

Correct

No. A valid, full-time job offer from a BC employer is a mandatory gate for essentially every Skills Immigration category, and the exception some international graduates used to rely on was removed as of January 2026.

Never say

"International graduates don't need a job offer." That exception is gone; verify current requirements before assuming otherwise.

Is there a separate BC tech worker stream?

Correct

Not anymore. Tech and other high-economic-impact occupations are scored inside the Innovate pillar (specifically its High Economic Impact category), not a standalone stream.

Never say

Referring to a "BC Tech Pilot" or "BC PNP Tech" as if it still exists as its own program.

Does age affect my score?

Correct

No. Unlike the federal CRS, BC's SIRS grid does not score age at all. The 200 points split across wage, work experience, education, language and region.

Never say

Assuming an age curve carries over from Express Entry or another provincial program's calculator.

Can I just report a higher wage to score more points?

Correct

That's risky, not clever. WelcomeBC can and does reject registrations and nominations for wage-integrity issues, including offers that look inflated relative to the role or the market. An artificially high wage can cost you the nomination entirely, not just fail to help.

Never say

"Just put down a higher number, it can only help." Wage figures are checked against the job offer and market rate.

Can I fix a mistake in my registration after I submit it?

Correct

Often no. Corrections to a submitted SIRS registration are frequently not permitted, so review every field carefully before submitting rather than counting on being able to fix it afterward.

Never say

"You can always go back and edit it later." Treat the first submission as close to final.

Does a BC nomination help with Express Entry too?

Correct

Yes, if your registration is Express Entry-aligned. A nomination through that stream adds 600 points to your federal Comprehensive Ranking System score, on top of the provincial process.

Never say

"A BC PNP nomination and Express Entry are unrelated." An EE-aligned BC nomination feeds directly into your federal CRS score.

How often does BC hold invitation rounds?

Correct

Roughly weekly to biweekly across the different categories, though cadence and which categories draw varies round to round. See the draw history rather than a promised schedule.

Never say

"Draws happen once a month." The actual cadence is faster and less regular than that.

Is this calculator official?

Correct

No. It is an independent estimate built from the published SIRS grid and 2026 round announcements; only WelcomeBC's own portal produces your official score and category placement. See Methodology.

Never say

Any wording that implies a government relationship or an official result.
